Engaging your core either in ChiWalking or ChiRunning is important to your sustainable good posture and body balance in all your activities. One of the 5 mindful steps is called “sitting up in your chair”. You can practice this exercise whenever you are sitting and as you arise from your chair.
Step 1: Sit in an upright chair with a back, lean back in the chair with your back against the chair. Feet rest comfortably in front of you.
Step 2: Pull yourself to a full upright position, Only using your abdominal muscles. Concentrate your attention solely in this area for movement. When you pull yourself up you will be in an upright position. If it helps place your hands on your upper thighs to make sure your movement is solely from your core.
Step 3: Repeat this step as many times as you need to fully experience the motion of moving from your core.
You can also repeat this anytime you are in a sitting position and if you would like to push it further move from your core to an upright position.
